Statistical estimates of interest in reading among Russian and American youth

Smirnov S.N.

Abstract

Sociological surveys of young people in Russia and the United States indicate that a significant part of this age group remains interested in reading books in both printed and electronic formats. It is not so much about the obligatory reading of books as part of the educational process, but about the independent choice of one's “reader strategy”. Young people’s interest in reading is also confirmed by their visits to libraries and bookstores. This interest is preserved even against the background of widespread audiobooks. This interest is preserved even against the background of widespread audiobooks. An interesting topic for future research is the changes in the structure of the books read (the relationship between classical and modern works, scientific and educational literature, etc.).
