Approbation and implementation of the results of sociological research (content analysis of abstracts of dissertation for the degree of doctor of sociological sciences)

Kazakova A.Yu.

Abstract

Using the snowball method, during the content analysis of the abstracts of dissertations for the degree of doctor of sociological sciences presented in the database of the Russian State Library, the forms of implementation of the results of sociological research identified by the authors in the traditional sections of the introductory part «Practical significance of the results» and «Approbation of the work» are highlighted. Seven extremely unevenly distributed forms of implementation of the results into public practice were found. Based on Claude Shannon’s understanding of the informational value of messages as the least likely, the author discovers a high predictability of the post-research fate of the results obtained. Fundamental science is closed onto the academic community. The core of «public sociology», according to the criteria of M. Burawoy, is only 3% of the works. More generally, the field can be expanded to 25% of works with a less pronounced «open» research orientation. In this peripheral part, the noted facts of the implementation of the results in a non-academic environment can be explained both by the author’s conscious need for a reflexive dialogue with civil society and by the traditions of individual scientific communities at the place of thesis defense.
