The review examines approaches to the conceptualisation of happiness; the problem of empirical «equivalents» that
developed for its operationalisation is discussed; the historical and
linguistic aspects of the transformation of the concept of «happiness»
are described. Despite the problematic nature of translating the
concept of happiness from the language of everyday use into the
language of science, it is noted that the appeal to social theory makes it
possible to find a theoretical framework that can be applied in
contemporary happiness studies
