Book review: Demertzis N. The political sociology of emotions: essays on trauma and ressentiment. – Abingdon; New York: Routledge, 2020. – xvii, 247 p.
This paper focuses on a book by the Greek sociologist Nicholas Demertzis on political emotions. To study political emotions the author proposes to combine the potential of political sociology and sociology of emotions. The central political emotions of modernity, according to Demertzis, are predetermined by cultural trauma and res-sentiment. The book provides a theoretical framework for the emerging research field of political sociology of emotions. The example of na-tion-building in Greece after the civil war is examined. Forgiveness, according to the author, plays a key role in the process of national rec-onciliation after a traumatic experience.
