Abstract

M. Bonhomme and A. Alfaro’s article on racism in digital spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic is analyzed. With the spread of COVID-19 the world has faced a crisis never seen before, which caused an immense flow of migrants across the world. Among the issues emphasized we can distinguish the issue of Haitian migrants in Chile and the attitude of the Chilean population towards them. The main stress is put on the people’s rhetoric in the online space. During raging pandemics especially, migrants are seen as the main source of the virus spread, and the negative and even hateful rhetoric transfers into different social platforms. Such behavior of the indigenous people to migrants is described with the help of the term «racism». The two main types of racism are spoken about in detail, they are online cultural racism and aggressive racism.
