Abstract

This paper is a review of the monograph of Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Zh.T. Toschenko «Society of trauma: between evolution and revolution (experience of theoretical and empirical analysis)» published in 2020 by the publishing house «The Whole World». In the new monograph, the author insists and justifies in every possible way the emergence and development of a new social modality called the society of trauma, which has its own specific internal (often latent) and external features. The author reveals his interpre-tation of «society of trauma», meanwhile, the events taking place in society in the 1990s and 2000s are illustrated in detail. A qualitative and quantitative comparative analysis of the key spheres of the USSR and the Russian Federation is given. In the end, the author's proposals are given for the exit (or at least minimization) from the state of a traumatized society. Another relevant innovative monograph by one of the mast prominent Soviet and Russian sociologists, Zh.T. Toshchenko, according to the reviewer's plan, has a strong influence not only on sociology as such, but also goes far beyond its scope, which one will certainly be convinced of after reading such a difficult, but very interesting and important work. The target readership of the monograph is students of sociology, historians, social workers, economists, political scientists, as well as specialists, postgraduates and doctoral students interested in the ambiguous (dual) functioning of Russian society in the context of three development strategies: evolution, revolution and trauma.
