The scientific articles written by Russian sociologist M.E. Ille from 1979 to 2019, during a little less than half a century, and dedicated to issues of the functioning of culture and art in the modern society are analyzed. It is demonstrated that the most themes that the author of the collection raises – a person’s spiritual needs, the facets of interaction between democracy and culture, «end of history» – collocate harmonically not only with new «culturological» empiric data, but also with social research results over 30 years, and that have not only lost its actuality, but also have gained a new sounding in the Postmodern epoch.
