On the concept of «knowledge infrastructure»: from large sociotechnical systems to micro-level social practices. (Literature review)

Abstract

The review discusses approaches to defining the concept of «knowledge infrastructure». It shows how the research optics for describing such infrastructures have changed, from thinking of them as large socio-technical systems to the study of combinations of technologies and practices. It concludes that both traditional robust and new plastic infrastructures of knowledge are important for the work of scientists.
