Factors of the adaptation of foreign labor migrants in a Russian region (based on sociological research in the Krasnoyarsk region)

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the main factors influencing the process of adaptation of migrants from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in the Siberian region. The results of several series of in-depth interviews with foreign migrant workers, heads of national and cultural associations of compatriots, representatives of government organizations working in the field of migration policy in the Krasnoyarsk Krai are presented. The informal social institutions of adaptation of foreign workers that have developed in the migration space of the region are described, their functional and dysfunctional characteristics are highlighted. The article defines the role of national cultural associations, religion and religious practices and a number of other factors in the adaptation of foreign labor migrants in the host region.
