Abstract

Using the example of a detailed review of the new monograph “Extracurricular spaces of socialization of Soviet schoolchildren (socio-pedagogical reconstruction)”, possibilities of historical and sociological analysis of the transformation of childhood from the 20th to the 21st century are presented. A comparison of modern research with descriptions of children's music schools, pioneer camps, the love of chewing gum, etc. shows the origins of modern trends in reformatting additional education, limiting independence and consumer socialization. The possibilities of expanding the research field due to proto-sociological historical documents are shown.
