Abstract
Development and transformation the urban environment is a difficult and complex process relevant to the cities of modern
Russia. Many key markers in the history of Russia are contained and
preserved in cities through architecture and other channels of social
memory. Modern innovations and technical inventions significantly
simplify getting to know the city, moving around it and creating a more
comfortable environment for living and working. Combining the new
and the old is a difficult-to-achieve necessity. Participants of the con
ference “Transforming the urban environment: new trends and old
problems” (Kaluga State University named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky,
May 23–24, 2024) discussed the problems of urban development in the
Russian Federation and linked them with the paradigms of sociology,
economics, and social psychology of the city.
